This page and the information herein has to do with educating home owners on the impact your HVAC system has on your health.  Most home owners don't realize that your comfort system can have a direct daily effect on your families health. 

For instance, most home owners assume that the filter in your wall/ceiling is meant to clean your air.  What homeowners aren't educated on is that 1 inch filter was only designed to protect your system from large particles such as paper or pet hair.  It does nothing for particles that you breath in.  The pleated filters that are offered do catch more particles, but due to them being so much more dense or thick they adversely affect the system from the beginning by starving it of air.  This will shorten the life span of a new unit considerably. 

Another misconception is that the dirtier a filter gets, the better it cleans the air.  This is also incorrect, because the dirtier it gets means less air flows through it.  In fact your system is starving for air.  In order for an air to air system to work it needs air.

However there are air filters on the market that do clean the air and do not harm your system.  The AccuClean has very little air resistance, but manages to catch particles down to .1 micron.  There are also UV lights on the market that kill harmful bacteria.  These can be effective if the air passing by is slow enough to give the light a chance to do its work.

The main goal of this page is to let homeowners know that there are effective air cleaning tools on the market and you don't need to fall for all the gimmicks on TV.

Below are examples of dirty ductwork that can effect your families health.  While these may seem extreme, sometimes they aren't far off.  This just emphasizes the importance of a proper installation and regular maintenance by the homeowner.
